If You Go Down To The Woods Today...

Shawhead Primary School's project was a year long investigation of trees.  The older children learned how to identify trees, how to plant new trees and about the wildlife that lives in and around trees. They brought this knowledge back to school where they shared it with the younger children.  They then planted trees in the school grounds and dissected the owl pellets they found - a fascinating activity that inspired a great deal of interest and learning.  The children have also made dens in their local wood and collected leaves and twigs to create pictures. It is fantastic that the parents and wider community were able to be involved in planting trees at the school and that the older children were able to help the younger ones as they learned more about trees.
