Save Our Oceans/ Garden Furniture to Education

The children of St Anselm's School were challenged to design a memorable campaign to help raise awareness of the need to protect our oceans. They decided to make a giant Turtle called Shellie out of recycled plastics and exhibit this in their school library, alongside campaign posters they had created. Pupils and parents were then invited to visit.  This was a fantastic way to highlight the issues faced by marine life in the face of plastic pollution and a wonderful example of how creativity can be used to introduce and reinforce a message of caring for the environment.

St Anselm's School also took part in a very original 'Garden Furniture to Education' project.  The children first identified and learned about the different plants and animals in their school grounds.  They then drew pictures of what they had found and worked with a local wood crafter to cut their drawings into wood blocks; these were used to make benches for a lovely new seating area.  This is a clever and enduring way of encouraging all the children at the school to take more notice of the wildlife around them.
