Learning about Sustainable Energy – A Creative Approach at Shawhead School

To inspire them on their learning journey, the children of Shawhead School went on a trip to some local woods, where they met a ‘unicorn’, who explained some key environmental issues to them.  Following this, they wrote their own stories on environmental themes and made models of dens that they would like to make.  They went to Drumlanrigg Castle to see Andy Goldsworthy’s environmental art exhibits there.  Having learned about sustainable energy, they made their own eco house and explained how they would power it

YPTE Director Peter Littlewood said, “We thought that Shawhead School took a really original approach with the way they introduced the topic of sustainable energy to the children.  Their visits to the different locations really helped to bring the topic alive for them and the resulting work the children produced was of an excellent standard.”
