Kirton’s Green Fingers
& Understanding Our World

Kirton Primary's visionary approach to environmental education has brought the world to their doorstep. Recognising that many children had limited exposure to the great outdoors, the school made a bold investment in state-of-the-art play equipment, encouraging young minds to explore and connect with the natural world around them. But their ambitions didn't stop there. In a move that rivals the renowned Eden Project, Kirton Primary created two magnificent greenhouses, each recreating Mediterranean and rainforest biomes. These immersive spaces enable the children to experience conditions in distant lands, deepening their understanding of the conditions in different corners of the globe and the plants that thrive there.

YPTE's Director, Peter Littlewood, was left in awe of the school’s dedication, exclaiming, "This was an amazing project! The children are really lucky to have such amazing greenhouses that provide a really great way to find out about what it's like in the rainforest and in a Mediterranean climate.”

Kirton Primary School have been awarded a £500 prize to further fuel their green initiatives and inspire future generations of environmental champions.
