Conserving Our Biodiversity

Oatlands Community Junior School took part in an amazing environmental art project. The children produced fantastic botanical illustrations, which have been exhibited at their school art exhibition and as part of a community art trail.  They also created a wonderful clay sculpture installation, which has been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London as part of an exhibition called Journeys 2016, and is featured on their website.

Through this artwork, the children learnt about the importance of conserving biodiversity and the risks of species extinction.  They were very keen to further raise awareness of this environmental issue and to raise money for their local charity the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The school achieved this by devising and self-publishing a wonderful botanical colouring book called "Flora - Conserving Our Biodiversity", which is on sale at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Centres.  They are already well on the way towards raising their target of £1500.

Oatlands Community Junior School should be extremely proud of their huge achievements.  Through their wonderful artwork, they have played a significant role in raising awareness of the importance of protecting endangered plants.
